When I joined RevFit in 2014 I was living in Feltwell Norfolk. It was a long drive for that 7.15am class. But I was at a point in my life at 68 where I had gone through all the worst times and come out the other end overweight, unfit and with very little self-esteem.
Those first few days I will never forget, I kept disappearing to the toilet to be sick, it was just the shock to my body, don’t worry said the girls you’ll be ok after a week, I was and it was only Karen Firth and Lyn Stanway encouraging me that got me through it. I only returned the next day because I felt this was my last chance and if I didn’t make it work I would grow old looking like all those other people I see on the High Street who struggle to get around.
I moved to Bury in the July that year by which time I had lost 16lbs and was beginning to look a little better. However, I found I couldn’t afford it and stopped for 6 months, then I rearranged my finances and managed to return.
I can’t underestimate the importance of the camaraderie that goes on. Even if you feel like turning over in bed and staying there a little nudge in your mind says no I’ll be letting down the others.
I am now proud to be 70, I feel and look better than I did 20 years ago, If you had told me that I would have been able to do squats and enjoy them I would have laughed. I am more flexible than I have ever been and I really miss it if for any reason, I can’t go.
